Fun in the Sun, Term 4!

Kiaora, and welcome back to school for our exciting Term 4 in Room 11. Term 3 was an action packed term for many in the Class with the conclusion of winter sports, production and of course the cross country. I would like to personally congratulate all the students who got involved in an extra activity and I hope that you continue to do this here at Balmac. It’s so great seeing how proud the children are when they receive their badges, Keep it up!
Term 4 has many events planned and with our term topic being ‘Communication’, there will be a lot of opportunities for the children to excel. We have begun our class ‘Amazing Race’ and I am already pleased to see the children working well as a team, and I look forward to the wicked work the Teams will produce.
The weather is starting to improve which is fabulous as we have our School Athletics Day planned for Wednesday 20th October, and then if the children qualify, North Zone and Otago Athletics Days to follow.

Term 3 Underway!

Hello friends and followers, well what a start to Term 3 with many events underway. The Class have been working great and preparing themselves for yet again, a busy Term. We have began our Topic for this term which is Challenge, with some excellent learning of the Human Body. This has involved the students being able to identify many the most common bones in the Skeletal System as well as their functions. Sean is our Class champion at naming them all! We have been reading great stories this Term including those from our 'Grossology' series. Ask the Students anything about Poop or Barf, and I'm sure they will have some great(interesting) facts for you!
Well done to all the Room 11 students who have made representative teams recently and for those who have been asked to help on our Balmacewen School Open Night, you will represent us well. Keep posted for when we have our Assembly and good luck to students competing in the Southland Sports Exchange and Sports Finals!

May Round Up

Hello all, and welcome to another installment of Room 11 highlights! A super busy time was had during the month of May, with many students producing some fantastic work. A huge success was our 'Mega Math Month' focus, in which we were able to increase our average to a creditable 82%, Super Work!
We also had an awesome visit to the Orokanui Eco-sanctuary which was a great experience, especially considering how lucky we are to have it located so close to us here in Dunedin. The Children took some fantastic photos, and learnt a lot about the unique wild life. The Science Fair Projects and coming along well and I very much look forward to the Children presenting them to each other and the school in the next couple of weeks!

Kiaora, and welcome back to students and all the friends of Room 11. I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing break and that you are looking forward to a Bumper-Busy term ahead? I had a great holiday which included attending 'The Wiggles' concert with my Niece and Nephew, which was a blast, and yes I did ask if they had any spare positions available,,,!
We are straight into it this Term with our Discovery focus incorporating our Science and Technology Fair. This can be a daunting project for some students, but with some good time management and a 'getting stuck in' attitude, it will be good fun. We will be conducting our own Kitchen Chemistry experiments in class, which are great for modeling the ASPIRE process. Stay tuned for photos (hopefully not of us making a scientific mess).

Well hello everyone,I hope you have all recovered from a massive week 7 and our fabulous Camp. Well done to all the Students and Parents involved, it was a huge success! You all bonded great as a class and it was awesome to see some students really challenging themselves. Have so many highlights and am looking forward to seeing all the photos that you may have.
Just the two short weeks left of this term with much to accomplish still, so lets keep up the hard work and lets get ready for a wicked Term Two in Room 11!

Week 5

Crikey, hard to believe it is already week 5 and there is so much more exciting events scheduled for Room 11 this Term. We have a trip to the Otago Early Settlers Museum and Milford Gallery next week and then we are off to camp Monday 15th, which is week 7! The students are now working hard within their curriculum groups (maths and reading) and are producing some great material. Swimming is going well with good feedback from the 'Swimsation' team and also from the Technology staff here at Balmac. Good to see! Thanks again for those parents who have helped with swimming and have indicated that they can help out with the Museum trip and camp!

Hi there folks, just a reminder that we will be swimming as a class each Thursday, with the next sessions being 10:30 - 11am on the 25th, 10 - 10:30am on the 4th of March and our last session on the 11th at 11 - 11:30am! Thanks to those parents who have helped out with walking down and providing transport, hugely appreciated! Also we have Camp 15th - 17th of March and information about this will be sent home next week!

Well an awesome start to the year with lots happening already! All the students have settled in great and have produced some terrific art work for our walls! Even if some of us have funny colored faces,,,! Swimming is under way which has been great to cool off from this amazing weather! Thanks to all the Parents/caregivers who were able to attend our "Meet the Teacher" evening, means a lot to get to know you all a little and for you to see where all the action will happen!

Kiaora and welcome to Room 11, here at Balmacewen Intermediate. I hope you have had a great holiday break.

My full name is Billy Napier and this is my 2nd full year teaching at Balmacewen. However I have spent a lot of time here teaching in the past, which has made me really enjoy working at this school.

I know that we will have a great year in 2010 because I will be working hard to plan interesting and exciting activities for you. I hope to make sure that you have a classroom environment that is not only fun but a place you want to be in. I have very high expectations in all aspects of our classroom. This means I expect you to do your best at all times, to keep up to date with all class leaning and home-tasks, and most importantly to develop the maturity and social skills to respect yourself, others and the class environment.

You will have lots of opportunities to join some sports teams and take part in cultural activities like choir, music and the Kapa Haka group. Make the most of these activities as they are a great way to get to know other people from other classes and are heaps of fun. Ask me if there is anything in particular that you want to join. Many students are often too shy to join up and wished they had. So don’t miss out.

Term 1 is going to be a very busy term, for example we have swimming beginning soon and we will be heading to Waihola for a three day camp on Monday 15^th March! A letter regarding cost, times and an indication of parent help will be sent home within the next day or two. We also have a school “Meet the Teacher” night on Wednesday 10^th February. This gives parents the opportunity to meet me and the view our classroom.

By now you will have had a wee look around the school, and have started to make some new friends. Remember that if you are having any problems don’t hesitate to come and see me as, I understand it can be a little overwhelming! I look forward to getting to know you all better over the rest of the term and to having an awesome year in Room 11.
